The Founder, Writer, Psychotherapist

Founder, Psychotherapist, and Author

I am Not Your Typical psychotherapist, writer or consultant. I like to look outside the box. And, in all honesty, I never liked coloring inside the lines.

I’m Elaine Smith, a Licensed Professional Counselor, self-published author, and the founder of CJL Counseling Services, a trauma-informed group practice that empowers individuals to heal from complex trauma and embrace their fullest potential. With over a decade of experience working with clients navigating trauma, I specialize in providing culturally specific, trauma-informed care, with a focus on supporting Black women as they work through the challenges of generational trauma.

As a clinical therapist, trainer, and business owner, I’m deeply committed to creating safe, compassionate spaces where healing and growth can thrive. I believe in prioritizing emotional wellness—not just for my clients but also for my team. Through innovative approaches and thoughtful leadership, I’ve built a practice that fosters resilience, connection, and empowerment.

I’m also passionate about sharing my knowledge and experiences through writing. I’ve authored Deception’s Silhouette and Strengthening Your Inner Queen, both available on Amazon. My books explore themes of resilience, empowerment, and personal transformation, reflecting my dedication to helping others overcome adversity and embrace their authentic selves.

Beyond my work in therapy, I’m committed to enriching the community. I organize events like the annual Women’s Conference and the "Permission to Be Free" Pre-Holiday Dinner, which provide resources, support, and inspiration for personal and collective healing.

As a doctoral candidate at National Louis University, my research focuses on addressing intergenerational trauma in therapy. I aim to amplify the voices of Black women clients, ensuring their perspectives inform best practices in multicultural counseling.

In addition to my clinical and academic pursuits, I express my creativity as a podcaster, and self-care advocate. Whether I’m leading a training, writing a book, or creating social media content, my goal is always the same: to inspire others to heal, thrive, and live authentically.
