Desireé York, Mental Health Therapist, Intern

Actively Seeking New Clients

Desireé York believes in creating a safe space where clients feel heard and accepted unconditionally in forming a collaborative, therapeutic relationship which facilitates self-exploration with trauma-informed care as her clients move towards their life goals.

“You are not on this journey alone. I foster an environment of respect and support; providing a source of encouragement as you find healing, hope and strength in working together to reach your goals.”

Becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor is an exciting culmination of York’s twenty-five-year passion for mental health service in non-profit community organizations such as the Anixter Center, a non-profit in Chicago that provides mental health, developmental disability, and Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Services.

York is a published writer and playwright, using her art for social justice. Her plays have received numerous awards, including the Rosa Parks Playwriting Award and have been professionally produced in multiple states, including the Detroit Repertory Theatre.

“You are worth the time and investment in yourself to reach your life goals with individualized support along the way. Therapy has expanded my self-awareness, increased mindfulness and brought healing; it gave me a second chance to change my course in life.”

She is scheduled to graduate with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in June 2025. York’s approach to therapy is a blend of person-centered and interpersonal theories while incorporating additional evidence-based practices such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness.
